Johnstone History Museum was opened in April 2008 as part of a community initiative by Morrisons and in collaboration with Johnstone History Society.

When planning their new supermarket store to be built in the town, Morrisons was approached by the History Society and they generously agreed to incorporate within the building, a purpose built extension to house the museum. Thanks are due to the late Councillor John Kenny JP who led the discussions with Morrisons on behalf of the History Society.

Once agreement was reached on the building of the facility, the project of fitting out the Museum was taken up by Life Member of the History Society, the late Adam Lynch. A Lottery grant of £29,100 was secured and Adam set about bringing the vision to life. The hard work put in by Adam and other dedicated members of the Society, resulted in the great little Museum that we have in place today.
